Beatrix S/S 2010

Beatrix, created by Patricia Livingstone and Megan Debackere, had an undeniable presence on the designer mash-up runway this Wednesday at Alberta Fashion Week.  The Spring/Summer collection began and ended strong with fitted jackets, well-tailored trousers and shorts, and eclectic accents like chain straps.

Livingstone and Debackere’s collection had a postmodern take on fifties attire achieved by introducing quirky tailoring to shrunken military-inspired bomber jackets, utilizing interesting colours and textures, and implementing finer details to the head-to-toe era.  Each outfit was richly layered, complete, and could be taken from the runway to the street, office, or a night out.

The Beatrix woman is someone who appreciates the craftsmanship of fine tailored goods,  who scours vintage stores for a one-of-a-kind piece that fits impeccably, and wants to look well put together at all times.  Pencil skirts, exaggerated pleated jackets, and weightless evening dresses could accentuate any closet, however a head-to-toe Beatrix look may come off a little kitchsy, and may look best paired with more muted pieces.

Overall, Beatrix was fun and lighthearted.  The intention to bring joviality back into fashion and the act of dressing was taken note, and Calgary Fashion identified the collection as one of the strongest presented Wednesday night.
