The second show at Seven Resto-Lounge featured designer Jana Froehrenbach of Broken Ghost Couture. Foehrenbach is the owner of Sass Women’s Consignment, from which she finds the “material” for her eco-friendly creations.
The idea behind sustainable design and eco-fashion is inspiring, especially in this day and age. Unfortunately in the mainstream, this concept is often construed as unsightly and not high fashion or “couture” per se. This collection was a little rough around the edges and added to this misdirected notion of eco-fashion.
The clothing itself seemed unfinished and a little frumpy at times, with bunchy seams and an over-the-top mix of fabric that sometimes didn’t seem to fit.
On the other hand, a few pieces stood out and were most definitely wearable. A dress with a black high- waisted skirt and kimono-style sleeves made of printed silk had beautiful detailing and was very chic. Conversely, a zippered dress made of sweatshirt material and lace had more of an urban feel, but was equally well executed.
To brand oneself, a designer needs an identity in his or her collection, and, regrettably, it was not seen here. Foehrenbach was all over the map and lacked continuity in her collection. In order to provide the audience with a more cohesive collection, we would have liked to have seen one chosen style, either the boho, urban, or chic look, not all three.

Hi there,
Just wanted to thank you guys for covering the Fashion Week. It was an AWESOME week and I was so inspired by the whole thing. The venue was amazing (remember partying at the Banke years and years ago) and the designers rocked with a capital R. I particularly loved Madam Wolfe, Dusted Rose and Caitlin Power.
I have a freshly stoked fire in me to make the hottest, greatest line ever for next season. Because I work with old and vintage clothing, I let the fabric and design of the garment I am working with dictate the style. So, if a piece emanates a boho style, I go with it. Alternatively, if a garment has an urban feel, I carry that out in the finished piece. Working with previously loved garments is a little different than working with yards of new fabric.
Again, thanks for your coverage of the event and the videos too. I hope this is repeated again next season! Cheers!
Hi Jana! We are glad you enjoyed the week! We look forward to seeing you next season!! We are definitely more than excited to see what you bring next season!
Happy fashion week preparations!
YAY! I won the Global Fashion Designer Search last night! Get to go to Vancouver Fashion Week Nov 8th. I’m beyond excited and pumped about showing my collection there.
