Dutch Blonde S/S 2010

Calgary’s first celebrated Project Runway contestant Camille Prins, kicked off Day 1 of Alberta Fashion Week with a country music video.

Yes, Alberta is known for it’s beef cowboys and oil and what better way to pay homage to cow town? The music video featured Camille Prins’ designs for the Canadian singer/songwriter Jalayne Tradler and her single ‘Hey Hey.’

All country aside, the Dutch Blonde collection was an intergalactic, hippie, space and jersey journey. Using a muted metallic palette Prins presented an easy to wear collection for the rock and roll chic with a wandering flare gone LA meets Manhattan.

The laid back collection centered on head-to-toe looks that emphasized legs without showing too much skin. The balmy weather wear would give a conservative client a well tailored shift dress or the daring dresser a bold mini dress, or a retro inspired trouser in a bright palette.

We don’t necessarily see the spring/summer collection on everybody, however Prins’ legging pants can be incorporated under a tunic or shirt dress. The styling and presentation scattered the collection, particularly the introduction of wide-brimmed hats that seemed more less suited for her futuresque, comfort-driven, simplistic designs.
